The purpose of the tri-town baseball organization is to establish a recreational program of baseball, which is fun, instructional and fair to all children, giving each child the opportunity to play the great American game of baseball.
The Recreation Baseball/Softball program will be referred to as the Northern Valley Tri-Town Baseball and Northern Valley Tri-Town Softball programs.
The travel baseball program will be referred to as NV Junior Norsemen Baseball program.
In order to play spring or summer travel, the child must play in the spring rec program. “Playing in the spring rec program” means playing in a minimum of 70% of the games (10 games season, the child must play in 7 games etc). In addition, unexcused absences in the spring for rec baseball will result in the child being suspended from the next spring TRAVEL game. (Each absence will be reviewed by the baseball committee and judged as to the validity of this absence.) If the child misses more than 70% of the games, he MAY not be considered for the summer travel teams. (Each case will be reviewed by the baseball committee and stand on its own merits.) A child who does not attend at least 60% of the games MAY NOT be able to participate in the playoffs for the Spring rec season. (Each case will be reviewed by the baseball committee and stand on its own merits.
If a child is injured for the spring and cannot play spring rec, the baseball committee must be notified in advance of this occurrence in order to keep the child’s eligibility for summer baseball open. Any deviation to this must be approved by the baseball committee.
In order to be considered for the summer travel team, the child must be able to attend at least 60% of these scheduled games. Children attending sleep away camp that will require them to miss more than 6 games MIGHT not be able to play in the summer. (Each case will be reviewed by the baseball committee and stand on its own merits.)
If a new family moves into one of the three towns during or after the Rec season begins, the child MIGHT be able to participate in the summer travel programs.
In order to play on any travel team, spring or summer, both parents or legal guardians must attend a one time meeting prior to the season, explaining what is expected of them and the child.
In order to participate in any travel team program, both parents must sign and adhere to a parents code of conduct. Breaking any of the rules of conduct may result in the child being removed from the team, the parent being banned, or both. (The baseball committee will review each incident and their findings will be final.)
In order to take the field for practices of any kind, the child must be registered and fees collected. Under NO circumstances will a child not registered and paid be allowed to practice or play until this is completed.
The tri-town baseball coaches will be picked from the pool of parents or other interested parties who signed up to coach or assist via the Community Pass program by the Tri-Town Baseball/Softball Committee.
Head coach candidates may be interviewed in order to select the best parent/community member for the position.
Coaches will not be able to “go into the tryout or drafts” with assistants lined up already for their teams. (This will ensure that teams are not “stacked in advance”.)
This is so each draft consists of one coach selecting their team. Assistant coaches will be the parents of the players selected for that team. No pre-arranged “I want to coach with ‘Bill’ or ‘Tom’ will be allowed” .
The teams will be selected by holding a tryout/evaluation. The date and time of the tryout evaluation will be announced to all children who have signed up for the rec or travel seasons.
The rules of play for the tri-town LL baseball program will be posted on the leagues website and all rules will be followed. Any request to change these rules must be addressed to the tri-town baseball committee in writing, prior to any game.
Spring/Summer/Fall Travel
1. Each separate season will have separate tryouts.
2. Coaches may be interviewed for each season for rec and travel
3. At least two tryouts/evaluations must be held. This may change with the approval of the tri-town baseball committee.
4. NO child not attending a tryout will be considered for the team. (secondary tryouts can and must be held to add a child to any given team.)
5. A child MUST attend at least ONE of the two tryouts in order to be considered for a travel team.
6. If a child cannot make a tryout or evaluation for any travel team, a separate evaluation must be held. Any child who cannot attend one of the evaluations, the parents must contact and arrange a separate evaluation prior to the two tryouts taking place. This will ensure that all children are given the opportunity to participate in the travel programs but will also ensure that the teams are not overloaded with players by children trying out for the teams after the teams are selected.
7. The goal for spring and summer travel is to be able to have at least one team at each level but ideally there are multiple teams in order to place any interested child on a spring or summer travel team. We urge ALL parents to stick with the program and continue to have their child play on whatever team they are selected to be on by the coaches or committee. In no way are the children to be slotted to be on any specific team prior to the tryouts and each season and each new year, the tryout process will start over. Meaning the players that are on a given team one year are not guaranteed that spot the following year. This is one reason that all children are encouraged to play on whatever travel team they are selected on. By getting the extra “reps” by playing additional games, the children’s skills will improve from season to season and year to year.
