Letter from Jim Oettinger - Director of Closter Recreation Commission
Folks, a meeting of interested parents and representatives from NV Demarest High School Lacrosse program met Monday night March 5th at Tenakill School in Closter to discuss the future of NV Junior Lacrosse and details on the program for this year.
Here is a brief recap of what was discussed and what the plans are moving forward.
There has been an NV Junior Lacrossse program run by Mark Sheeran for the past 10+ years. Mark has put a lot of time and effort into the league with his wife Kathleen but they have moved to Pennsylvania and are not able to run the program any more. We would like to thank Mark and Kathleen for their devotion to the program for these past years as they pass this program on to the three sending towns to NV Demarest High School.
The goal of the new NV Junior Lacrosse program is to work closely with the NV Demarest lacrosse coaches and NV Athletic director Greg Butler, in addition to Coach Marc Houser (Varsity boys baseball) and Coach Jerry Hill (Varsity girls Softball coach). This collaboration will help foster a feeder Lacrosse program to the high school and enable boys and girls to play both Lacrosse and Baseball /softball in the spring seasons each year.
We will coordinate closely the schedules of all of these sports and rotate game times on the weekends so that all of them are played at separate times. (there might still be some conflicts with tournaments -travel times etc), but a concerted effort will be put forth to enable the kids to do both sports- if they so desire.
What was determined from the meeting was that there is enough interest in Lacrosse for 2018 to field teams for 3/4 boys, 5/6 boys and 7/8 boys. A schedule has been established for all three levels and we are in search of volunteers for coaching or assisting coach for all three levels.
Coach Alexandra Champ has established and will continue clinics for girls Lacrosse and we are hoping that with enough interest by next year, we will be able to field a girls lacrosse program from the three towns for girls in grades 3-8. Information on Coach Champ’s Lacrosse clinics for girls can be accessed via this link: https://www.learn2lax.com We strongly recommend that you consider joining this program.
Here are some details and please feel free to contact us with any questions
